Renovation Tips: Should You Stay or Should You Go?

With all your plans and budgets in place and the required permits secured, it may just be a matter of days before home remodeling work begins. Major renovations typically call for a home’s occupants to move out for the duration of a project, but other options may be available to you. Deciding on which course of action to take will depend on how much of a disruption you can deal with.

Kitchen Renovation

A kitchen makeover isn’t too hard to put up with, although you will need to set up a temporary kitchen in another space in your home, such as a basement or garage. Designate zones in this space for cooking and cleaning up to create structure and make things easier on your family.

Floor Renovation

Compared with a bathroom renovation, sanding and refinishing your floors or laying new carpet or tile may appear to be a pretty simple thing to do, but know that such a project will require that everything on that floor be moved out and stored elsewhere over the course of the work. You may want to relocate while floors are being done.

A Temporary Move

If the project scale is large, such as a whole home remodel, consider moving in with family temporarily or book a few weeks at an extended stay hotel.
