4 Key Measurements in Kitchen Design

If you’re giving one of the most important rooms of your home a complete overhaul, it’s understandable that you want to do it right. When it comes to kitchen remodeling, there are a few important factors you need to keep in mind, one of which are the key measurements of kitchen design.

These include:

  1. Storage – When it comes to the storage in your new kitchen, experts recommend that you locate your refrigerator and dry goods at the kitchen’s entry point. According to pros, you should also put your pantry on one side with a countertop that’s 15 to 24 inches in length on the other. That way, you can easily set down items that have been removed from the freezer and refrigerator, facilitating organization and food preparation.
  2. Cooking – For your cooking center, it’s best that you arrange it around the range, cooktop and wall oven. As for the countertop, kitchen remodel contractors recommend that you set aside 21 to 36 inches of space on either side of the cooktop so you’ll have a place to immediately and safely put down hot food.
  3. Prep Space – When it comes to your food prep space, the ideal location is near the sink. You should allow 18 to 36 inches of countertop to comfortably prepare food. If you have space, you can also consider installing a kitchen island, another dedicated space you can use for food preparation purposes.
  4. Cabinets – Cabinets are one of the most important parts of your kitchen. Not only do they function as storage, they also serve as focal points for the room. Cabinets are best installed 18 inches above the countertops and should be 30 to 42 inches in height. In terms of distance between cabinets, there should be at least 42 to 48 inches available. However, if you have a U-shaped kitchen, you might be able to bump this up to 96 inches.
