3 Simple Ways to Create a Statement Ceiling

It’s common for homeowners to pull out all the stops when designing their interior yet completely neglect the ceilings. Giving this important part of your home something more than just a fresh coat of white paint can go a long way toward turning your remodeling plan into a cohesive and well-thought-out project.

In living rooms and bedrooms, you need to strike a balance between visually consistent and not drawing too much attention to the ceiling. In kitchens, you want the ceiling to tie in seamlessly with other elements such as countertops and kitchen cabinets. Our skilled designers offer these tips to help you get started.

1. Paneling

Ceilings don’t have to be flat. You can add a little bit of character to your ceiling by using trims and paneling to make it stand out. Paneling your ceiling can also help you divide a room into “sections” that the rest of the design can follow. Additionally, using panel boards to finish a ceiling lends itself well to the installation of lighting fixtures, giving your home a much more sophisticated look.

2. Color

Don’t be afraid to use color on your ceiling. Even with intricate paneling, color can still make a huge difference and give an otherwise flat and boring surface some visual interest. This works extremely well in smaller spaces such as bathrooms. Use colors that continue other elements (such as tile and accent walls) to make a room appear bigger than it actually is. Work with your bathroom remodel contractors and explore ideas to maximize the use of color on your ceilings.

3. Beadboard & Wainscoting

Similar to the use of panels or coffered ceilings, you can also use beadboard to add a finishing touch to your interior remodel. Beadboard and wainscoting are typically used under windows but they are not uncommon in statement ceilings as well.
