3 Ways to Keep Your Home Clean During a Renovation

There’s no way to completely avoid dust and debris during a renovation, but you don’t have to let it take over your home. Working with a reputable home and bathroom renovation expert that is conscientious about clean-up is the first step, and there are additional things you can do to make sure your home is protected during your project. These include:

  1. Clearing the room. Before any work begins, clear all rooms to be renovated of anything you can move, including furniture, decor items and other household items. The goal is to get the work area as bare as possible, limiting the number of surfaces on which dust and debris can settle.

  2. Covering things up. Anything that can’t be moved out of the work area should be covered in plastic. In many cases, this will involve heavy furniture like vanities and wardrobes, which require double protection since they have finishes that can be dulled by dust. Make sure you cover up return air ducts as well to prevent construction dust from being sucked into the HVAC system and blown all over your home.

  3. Tidying up daily. A daily sweep of the area around the job site will help to reduce the amount of dust and debris that can get spread around. This shouldn’t be too much trouble if the renovation area has been properly sealed up prior to any work being started.
