Ring in the New Year With the “I’m for Water” Pledge

This might be the perfect time to make a new year’s resolution that’s in line with water conservation efforts. For 2019, consider taking the “I’m for Water” pledge, an initiative by WaterSense. WaterSense is a program sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with the goal to be both a widely recognized label for water-efficient products and a resource for water conservation tips. Here’s what you’re signing up for when you take the pledge.

What’s the “I’m for Water” Pledge?”

It’s a well-known fact that water covers about 70% of the Earth’s surface. What many do not know is that clean water is a finite resource—one that is becoming less available as populations rise. When you take the “I’m for Water Pledge”, you make a commitment to do various water-conserving tasks for a month that can really add up. You can access the list here.

Water Conservation Tips

Here are tips that can help you cut back on water usage in and around your home.

  1. Use a glass when brushing your teeth. You end up wasting many cups of water if you keep the faucet running while you brush your teeth. It’s best to just use a glass that you can fill up with water so you don’t use more water than you need.

  2. Take shorter showers. Five-minute showers are on-trend right now. The good news is that this is a trend you can follow without guilt.

  3. Invest in water-efficient products and projects. Tub-to-shower conversions, dishwashers, showerheads and toilets are just a few of the water-efficient products and projects you can invest in to ensure your household cuts down on water waste.
