Mid-Century Revival

Project Name
Mid-Century Revival
Project Summary
This was a thoughtful remodel of a mid-century modern home, preserving its iconic wood paneling while rejuvenating all other surfaces to complement the original design. The kitchen was updated with sleek cabinetry and modern appliances, enhancing functionality while respecting the home's aesthetic. Both bathrooms received contemporary fixtures and finishes, seamlessly blending vintage and modern elements. The rest of the home was updated with new flooring and electrical fixtures, creating a cohesive look that honors the home's heritage. The result is a harmonious balance between original charm and modern convenience, breathing new life into this classic space.
Project Story
Kitchen:
  • The kitchen in this home had been updated in the 90’s but the“modernization” had completely erased the original mid-century character. The laundry was also located in the kitchen and there was an awkward utility closet/pantry that hid the electrical panel. This closet connected to an L-shaped island that cut the space in half and made it feel terribly disjointed. Then there was the oversized exhaust fan that was quite literally the elephant in the room!
Main Bathroom:
  • The main bathroom was completely flipped around for a layout that made more sense in this home. They didn’t need such a large countertop and sink area, and the shower was obtrusive in the corner right as you entered the room.
  • Old plumbing and electrical from the 60’s were updated to work more efficiently, including the old vent in the wall. We also removed the little secret medicine cabinet in the wall.
  • The marble patterned hex tile on the floor was a fun nod to the old marble countertops that the homeowner loved. It is also a different, but cohesive look with the large-scale marble-look tile that runs through the rest of the home.
Primary Bathroom:
  • The primary bathroom remodel transformed the space while preserving its original layout and embracing a mid-century modern aesthetic. The highlight is the striking deep blue tile, which creates a bold focal point along the whole vanity wall. A modern, minimalist light fixture over the beveled mirror is an interesting visual feature, but this vanity area didn’t require much in the way of lighting due to the skylight and existing lights in the ceiling. New marble countertops bring elegance and luxury, complemented by fresh flooring that ties the look together. The tub area was updated with a more modern tub, including a convenient shampoo shelf and soap niche. Again, taking the tile all the way to the ceiling elongated the room and made it feel much larger. Geometric tiles in the shower add a contemporary touch, enhancing the overall design. Overall, the remodel successfully updates the bathroom with a harmonious balance of classic mid-century elements and modern flair.
Living Room:
  • In this room, the old carpet was removed, and the new flooring was run throughout the space and the ceiling received a new coat of paint. The fireplace was updated with paint and a new mantel that matched the existing beams. New sliding doors and windows were also installed. The electrical was also updated.
