Post-Pandemic Predictions for Work-From-Home Spaces

For the vast majority of us, the “new normal” has meant a number of significant lifestyle changes. And as one of the area’s leading interior remodeling contractors, we’re pretty confident in saying that the homes we’ll be seeing in late 2020 and beyond will look a little bit different from what we’re used to.

As more and more people recognize the value of having a home that can do double- or triple-duty as a space for work, school and other essential activities, we expect the following to be the focus of many remodeling projects in the coming years:

Home Offices

Chances are you’ve had to work in a makeshift office in your kitchen or bedroom. This type of setup can be pretty challenging, what with the distractions of daily living intruding into your work life. A good home office is one that will empower you to work from home as productively as you would in an office environment, if not more.

Tip: Must-haves in a home office include comfortable furniture, adequate amounts of natural and artificial lighting, and organized storage. A professionally designed home office will also look very attractive for those now-ubiquitous video calls.

Home Gyms

A lot of people are hesitant about going back to their old gym and fitness club routines, and working out outdoors is not an option for some. The answer? At-home workouts! Now is a great time to start thinking about converting part of your basement or a seldom-used room into your very own home gym.

Tip: You need a home gym that works for your particular style of workout. You don’t need to replicate the look and feel of a typical gym, but it’s a good idea to make provisions for a healthy mix of endurance, strength, balance and flexibility training.

Health & Safety

Turning your home into a “clean zone” where you can rest easy is something worth bringing up with interior renovation pros. Many homeowners are looking to incorporate designs, materials and technologies that make cleaning and disinfecting as easy as possible. Good examples of these include easy-clean floors and countertops, antimicrobial doorknobs and handles, touch-activated or touchless faucets and more.

Indoor Greenery

Over the past few weeks, many of us have seen friends posting on social media about plant hauls or the progress of their new kitchen gardens. It makes sense: when our time outdoors is limited, it’s normal to start craving indoor greenery. If you want to enjoy the benefits of being surrounded by plants but don’t know where to start, talking to a remodeler can help. After all, a big part of our job is finding potential in your home’s underutilized spaces.
