5 Ways to Upgrade Your Bathroom Without Gutting It

It’s a given that bathroom renovations can take a significant amount of time to finish. Potential disruptions to your daily routine, on the other hand, depend on how extensive the renovations are. Fortunately, for those on tight schedules, there are ways to upgrade your bathroom without gutting it.

1. Bold Color Accents

There’s a reason why white is often the most prominent color in a bathroom. Shades of white never go out of style and complement a wide variety of colors. However, some consider an all-white color scheme to be too dull and sterile.

If you want to add a bit of personality to your bathroom, you can have bathroom cabinets painted with bold colors, which contrast nicely with an all-white background. If you want a more comprehensive overhaul of the bathroom color scheme, have the tiles painted. Keep in mind that coordinating colors can be tricky, which is why it’s best to consult a bathroom remodeling contractor before deciding on a color scheme.

Here’s a design tip: it’s not uncommon for bath and shower recesses (the walls and shower base) to suffer discoloration or have stains, which can make your bathroom look older. If you’re planning to update your bathroom’s color scheme, you might want to start with the bath and shower recesses first.

2. Potted Plants

Don’t underestimate the energizing effect of potted plants. Remember, natural elements have a calming effect. Adding a few potted plants not only creates a relaxing atmosphere in the bathroom, it also adds a bit of color without having to paint anything.

3. A Spa-Like Showerhead

Of course, visual design elements can only do so much to improve the bathroom experience. You also need to think about bathroom functionality. One upgrade worth considering is a rainfall showerhead and a detachable handheld sprayer. The rainfall showerhead helps increase water pressure while the handheld sprayer makes cleaning easier.

4. Strategically Placed Mirrors

You can’t create a spa-like atmosphere in the bathroom without natural lighting. In addition to brightening the mood in just about any room, natural sunlight gives the illusion a bathroom is more spacious and airy. Strategically placing mirrors in certain areas of your bathroom helps distribute natural light evenly and enhance the optical illusion.

5. Open Timber Shelving

It’s always a good idea to expand storage space in your bathroom, usually one of the smallest and most frequently used parts of a home. Timber shelving expands bathroom storage space while adding a natural element to your bathroom. If you’re installing wood cabinets or shelves, make sure they’re properly sealed. Otherwise, wood becomes vulnerable to rot and mold, which quickly grow in enclosed, humid spaces such as the bathroom.
