An Essential Guide to Indoor Paint Colors

Interior paint colors are an important consideration if you want to enhance the appeal of your space. With the right color combination, you can create a visually striking interior or a relaxing oasis inside your home.

To help you make the right interior paint choices, home remodel expert DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen of The Woodlands shares a few tips on creating your color scheme.

Choose Colors That Match Your Personality

To ensure you will genuinely like your interior, choose colors that reflect your personality and tastes. If you like a color that creates an aura of mystery and sophistication, navy blue and purple are a great choice. If you’re a passionate person with a fiery personality, bright and strong colors like red are recommended. You can start by focusing on a single color, then going a few shades lighter or darker depending on your preference. You can use your chosen color as the base of your interior or as an accent.

Use Black to Emphasize Other Colors

Black works with almost any kind of color palette. Typically, in home renovation projects, it is used as an accent to emphasize a specific color or material. For example, if you have a quartz countertop in your kitchen, setting it alongside black drawers and cabinets will make it stand out even more. If you don’t like true black for your interior paint, you can opt for a lighter, less intense shade like charcoal gray or midnight blue.

Learn to Balance Color Distribution

Achieving balanced color distribution in your indoor spaces can be tricky. Sometimes, a two-tone color scheme works. But if you want to create better harmony and balance, the safest way to do so is by following the 60-30-10 rule. This means you should use a dominant color for 60% of the room, usually the walls. Then, you should select a secondary color for 30% of the room or upholstery and an accent color for 10% of the space.

Get Inspired by Patterns

Look at the existing patterns or prints in the room. If you have a favorite rug, curtain, or bed sheet, it might be the inspiration you’re looking for. Pick the boldest or brightest color in the print and use it on an accent wall. If you want subtle, check the lighter shades in the pattern. This is also a good way of tying together the elements in your space.
