3 Common Mistakes to Avoid When Planning Your Home Office

Just a few short years ago, many of us never dreamed of needing our own home office. Nowadays, many more employers are embracing a hybrid setup that allows employees to split their time between working in the office and working from home. This new flexibility has allowed many people to turn their home office dreams into a reality. If you are in the midst of planning a home office, here are four common mistakes, according to our designers.

1. Not Paying Enough Attention to Lighting

As with many rooms in your house, lighting can make or break a space. Having too much harsh lighting is a big no-no and having lighting that is too dim is also a common snafu. The best lighting is the type that kind of goes unnoticed, which is why natural lighting is the best way to go. If possible, try to position your desk close to a window to get plenty of natural light.

2. Too Much Desk Clutter

A lot of people tend to buy a lot of cute decorations that really aren’t essential. This inevitably leads to desk clutter. While these items do look nice, they’re not the best things to have around if you want to be productive. So even if you’re not a big fan of minimalism, your home remodeler may recommend that you keep your work desk clutter-free to avoid distractions.

3. Working Too Close to the Bedroom

Many of us put our workspaces too close to our bedrooms or, worse, in the bedroom itself. This not only prevents your bedroom from being a space reserved for sleep and relaxation, it also decreases your productivity during work hours. Instead of bringing your desk into your bedroom, consider working from the kitchen or living room.
