Modern Coastal Interior Design: A Quick Guide

Light, airy and calming — these are just some of the words commonly used to describe a coastal-style interior. It’s no surprise that many homeowners are attracted to the fresh whites and blues of coastal homes. And what’s even better is that this design is easy to recreate in your own home!

In this post, interior renovation expert DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen of Hollywood shares three essential tips to help you achieve this style in your home.

Natural Light

Coastal-style interiors are typically bright with natural light, so you might want to invest in a good amount of windows to bring in as much natural light as possible. Adding sheer ivory drapes can do the trick if you want to keep some privacy. Consider setting up mirrors in key areas too to help boost natural light in the room.

A Simple Color Palette

When it comes to your interior color scheme, keep it simple, light and fresh. Use a small selection of complimentary shades, and make sure this remains consistent throughout the room. Interior remodeling contractors recommend white as a dominant color — use it on your walls, ceilings, furniture and other interior design elements. A strong blue or gray is usually effective at breaking up the room and creating some depth and visual strength.

Open-Plan Layout

An open floor plan is ideal for creating the breezy atmosphere that is typical in coastal interiors. Add to this the use of windows and you have a spacious and airy interior. Make sure to pay close attention to minor details as well, like accent pieces, since these can help smaller spaces such as hallways and reading nooks flow into the larger open rooms.
