4 Great Sources of Kitchen Remodeling Inspiration

If you seem to be having a creative block planning your kitchen remodel, some inspiration may help get things going. DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen of West Collin County looks at some of the great sources of inspiration for kitchen remodeling projects.

1. Friends and Family

If you have friends or family who had their kitchen updated in the past few months, they may provide the inspiration that you need. A functional kitchen can offer a tactile experience that photos and videos can’t provide. For example, you can feel the difference between their countertop and yours and decide whether it works for you. You may also get valuable insight into the kitchen remodeling process, as can only be provided by someone who has completed one.

2. Print Media

Magazines and other remodeling-related publications remain among the best sources of inspiration for a home remodel. They’re sold in newsstands and convenience stores, you can carry them everywhere, and they don’t require an internet connection. If you’re keeping a remodeling journal, you can clip reference photos and articles from magazines. Even old remodeling magazines can inspire your project.

3. Websites

Finding reliable sources of inspiration on the internet can both be easy and difficult. Easy, because everything you need (and then some) is virtually at the tip of your finger. Difficult, because using the internet is like finding the proverbial needle in a haystack unless you know what you’re searching for. Websites dedicated to home improvement, like Houzz or Angi (formerly known as Angie’s List) are good places to start. Contractor blogs, like ours, are another great source of inspiration, as well as tips and how-tos.

Collecting reference photos from the internet is also just as easy. You can save them in a virtual folder on your computer or phone, store them on a cloud-based storage service, or use Pinterest to create a virtual collection. The latter also lets other users comment on your “pins,” which can be useful when you’re trying to decide between two or more options.

4. TV Shows

Whether you prefer cable, streaming, or traditional TV, you’re bound to find an inspiring home improvement show or two. There is a wide variety of shows that cater to interests like celebrity home tours, house flipping, and extreme makeovers, in addition to the usual how-tos and product showcases. If you prefer shorter videos, you can also find inspiration from various videos on platforms like YouTube.
