Tiny but Mighty

Project Name
Tiny but Mighty
Project Summary
This itty bitty bathroom now radiates a modern classic style and beautiful design elements, along with improved functionality. Much was accomplished with limited space available, and the results are worth showing off! Goodbye to the creative DIY wall treatment of aluminum foil, and hello to a light and modern day bathroom.
Project Story
The owners of this home desperately needed a bathroom upgrade to the tiny DIY space that is the only bathroom on the second floor. The overall footprint of this bathroom, at its widest points, is only 71” x 86” with truly no options to expand in any direction. Naturally, all product selections needed to be minimal in size, light in color, and splash-zone friendly. The client desired a modern classic style to fit the 1920’s era house, which is expressed in the custom black steel base for the pedestal sink, classic chrome fixtures, and white subway tile throughout. We removed the tub and put in a low threshold shower with a heavy glass barrier one one side but with an open corner by the toilet area, creating less of a cramped space. The subway tile goes up to the ceiling in the shower and up 44” on all other walls, and sheet vinyl was put in on the floor in a lattice pattern. Another element that added a few more inches of space as well as beautiful design was the removal of the plaster covering the chimney that stuck out of the side of the bathroom, exposing the authentic brick underneath. A medicine cabinet and toilet topper cabinet allow for necessary storage without protruding on precious space, and we replaced the single sconce light fixture with a three bulb fixture over the mirror as well as put in a new vent fan with built-in can light. There were many challenges in this remodel regarding the limited space and the age of previous materials, but the transformation now allows for a bathroom that is much more pleasant to use and the owners can be proud of!
