Rule-Breaking Design Trends for the Small Bathroom

With the right design and features, your small bathroom doesn’t have to look or feel cramped. Here are fresh small bathroom remodeling trends that are breaking old, established rules!

Streamline Storage

Being a minimalist is key when it comes to small bathrooms. Large vanities with a deep cabinet space under the sink may not be as efficient as you think because all the clutter tends to end up in the cabinet. Instead of a bulky vanity, go for a floating sink or cabinet or narrow open shelves. With these storage options, you’re less likely to accumulate clutter in your bathroom since your stuff is visible.

Splurge on Finishes

With smaller home remodeling projects, you spend less. You can splurge on materials that make your bathroom look more luxurious. Go for quality accent lighting fixtures and consider tiling the upper half of your bathroom in marble or another high-end material. You can add a towel warmer that can also be used as a towel rack or upgrade to a glass shower door.

Mix Textures & Patterns

Designers usually say that bold colors and busy patterns will make a small bathroom look cramped. However, strong patterns and texture add actually more depth and life to your space, making it look more expansive.

Add a Glass Shower Door

You can save a lot of space in your bathroom by replacing the tub with a modern glass walk-in shower. A seamless glass door is definitely stronger and longer-lasting than a high-end shower curtain. Not only will a seamless glass shower open up your bathroom, it will also boost your home’s value.

Go for Floating Elements

Floating sinks, toilets and other fixtures are easier to clean since they are open below. They also make your bathroom look bigger. The wall space is usually left bare so why not make the most of it?

Use Mirrors for Walls

Mirrors create the illusion of space, which benefits small bathrooms. Also, with a mirror that stretches across the wall, two people can use the space at once.

Add More Black Elements

While a full-on white bathroom looks brighter, it can simultaneously feel flat and cold. Adding just the right amount of black to your bathroom will give it more depth. Consider black walls, a black-and-white tile design or a black ceiling to give your space more life.
