5 Tips for Creating a Tranquil Bathroom

A bathroom provides a solitary place where you can be alone and take a break from the stresses of the outside world. However, if your bathroom is cluttered and disorganized, it can make you feel more stressed and overwhelmed. Fortunately, with the right renovation, you can transform your bathroom into a tranquil, relaxing space.

In this blog post, DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen of Southern Lakes, a trusted bathroom renovation company in the area, lists five tips for creating a peaceful and calm atmosphere in any bathroom space.

1. Incorporate Natural Elements

Bringing natural elements into your bathroom can help improve indoor air quality, reduce stress levels, create a sense of balance and raise moods. For a warm and welcoming bathroom, you can incorporate wooden accents like wooden shelves or cabinets into the space. On the other hand, if you want a more relaxed vibe in your bathroom, using stone on floors or other areas is a great idea.

2. Use Soft Lighting

A careful lighting plan is crucial in any bathroom remodel as it helps set the mood for the entire space. To achieve a calm environment, choose lighting fixtures that provide soft diffused illumination, such as lanterns, sconces, chandeliers and pendant lights. You can also use dimmers on existing lighting fixtures if needed. Installing warm LED bulbs instead of harsh fluorescent ones will add comfort because the former gives off a subtle glow while the latter typically provides glaring brightness.

3. Add Plants or Flowers

Houseplants can help improve the air quality in your bathroom and energize the space. Some popular choices are aloe vera, peace lily and the Chinese evergreen plant. These do well with minimal sunlight and humid conditions in most bathrooms. If you don’t have much time, opt for artificial greenery, as they require almost no care.

4. Choose Neutral Colors and Textures

Some of the most commonly used colors and textures are associated with serenity, such as whites (eggshell), grays (light gray), creams (ivory), tans (khaki ), blues (baby blue) and greens (sea foam green). These work best when combined together. For example, white walls paired with neutral tile floorings add texture and give off a calm yet sophisticated look. Other ideas might include incorporating wicker baskets for storage purposes.

5. Utilize Scented Candles or Essential Oils

Scented candles and essential oils can help add an extra layer of calming ambiance to the bathroom. Popular scents that create a tranquil atmosphere include lavender, eucalyptus, sandalwood and jasmine. The great thing about using these is you don’t need to use too much; just one or two candles placed in the right spot will do. You can also opt for diffusing essential oils with an electric diffuser if needed.
