Issues Can Arise During a Bathroom Remodel

Bathroom renovations are not as simple and straightforward as they sometimes look on television and online platforms. Despite how much you plan for your project, issues may still arise. However, with the help of a skilled remodeler, these issues can be resolved and you’ll achieve the bathroom of your dreams! Here are common issues that you may encounter during a bathroom remodel and how to deal with them.

Plumbing Woes

You may face problems with your home’s plumbing system if the previous contractor didn’t do a great job of installing it. A knocking sound every time the shower runs is a common sign of poor plumbing behind walls. It’s usually caused by unsecured pipes that rattle as water runs through them. Check faucets or spouts that leak even when the water is off or deliver inconsistent water pressure. Depending on how serious the problem is, a new plumbing system may need to be installed.

Mold Growth

One of the most common problems in bathrooms is mold growth. This organic growth can risk your family’s health by triggering upper respiratory tract symptoms, as well as asthma and allergy symptoms. When planning a bathroom remodeling project, take a look at your walls and ceilings first. Look for dark spots on the surface above baseboards or around the ceiling, or patches of drywall that look wet even if no one has recently used the bathroom. If there’s mold, it must be addressed before proceeding with your remodel.

Poor Venting

Improper or outdated bathroom design can result in insufficient venting. To determine if you have this problem, your remodeler must thoroughly inspect your current bathroom. The older your home is, the more likely it has improper venting. Keep in mind that with sufficient ventilation, you can prevent moisture-related issues in your space.

Bathroom Drain Issues

Water should quickly flow to the drain and shouldn’t pool in your shower area. Your drainage system may have a problem if half an inch of water is still in the shower pan a few minutes after turning off the water. Sometimes, an improper seal in the shower drain can cause water to leak out onto the floor, and onto the ceiling of the first floor if the bathroom is located on the second floor.
