Room for One More

Project Name
Room for One More
Project Summary
This family knew change was coming—fast. With a baby on the way, they wanted their kitchen to better support everyday life, gatherings with family, and the new rhythm that comes with becoming parents. Their existing layout felt closed off and segmented, limiting natural light, sightlines, and how the spaces worked together. The goal was clear: open things up, improve function, and create a home that felt welcoming, practical, and ready for this next chapter.
Project Story
The kitchen was separated from the living and dining areas by a wall that disrupted flow and made the space feel smaller than it was. Flooring transitions from the living and dining area also visually divided up the area. The layout made it difficult to cook, entertain, and keep an eye on what was happening nearby. Timing added another layer of complexity - this kitchen needed to be completed before the baby arrived. As the design planning progressed clear goals were set: open the kitchen/living room to improve light, connection, usability. Create a kitchen that feels more modern/functions beautifully for daily life and entertaining, simplify transitions for a seamless feel, add more storage and better workflow. By removing the dividing wall, the kitchen, dining, and living areas were connected. The new layout improved sightlines between the kitchen and living area and allowed natural light to travel freely throughout the home. A thoughtfully designed kitchen became the anchor of the space, balancing efficiency with style and providing room for both quiet mornings and lively gatherings. Flooring was unified to eliminate visual breaks, helping the entire area feel larger without adding a single square foot. Storage and work zones were redesigned to support everyday routines while keeping the space feeling uncluttered and calm.

How does the remodel enhance the client's life
The finished remodel delivers exactly what the family had hoped for—a home that feels open, comfortable, and ready for real life. The kitchen now connects effortlessly to surrounding spaces, making it easier to cook, host, and stay connected as a family. What was once a closed-off kitchen is now a warm, functional environment designed to grow with them. Why It Works: This project is a great example of how smart planning, clear priorities, and thoughtful design can completely change how a family lives. By focusing on layout, flow, and function, the kitchen remodel supports both the excitement of new beginnings and the comfort of everyday moments.
