Breathable and New

Simple solutions made up a majority of this homeowner’s kitchen remodel. What was once a passable yet slightly outdated kitchen was delightfully transformed into an updated conversation piece with wonderful colors, beautiful appliances, and a daringly simple floor plan which allowed for the breathability which the homeowner desperately wanted. For onlookers stepping into this kitchen for the first time, they will notice the striking and eye catching color scheme shown in the contrasting dark cherry cabinets and white river granite countertops with matching floor tiles. It presents warmth, engagement, and invitation. Once you are immersed in its space, you will notice the updated appliances and easy breathing atmosphere.

The goals and purpose of this kitchen remodel: 

1. Install white river granite countertops and dark cherry cabinets in the kitchen.
2. Remove a section of the wall where the refrigerator used to be, install new countertops and move the refrigerator location to another wall.
3. Install new floors to match the new cabinetry and countertops, and update the overall look of the kitchen.

The first big thing we wanted to achieve was to fill a space left by the china cabinet which the homeowners planned to sell to their friends. The best option for that was to place the refrigerator in that newly empty section. The corner wall which kept the refrigerator was something they wanted to remove. This opened up the main entryway into the kitchen and into the living room and dining area.  Another challenge we faced was in the installation of an updated flooring to replace the outdated wood planks. We ran into a design challenge in this arena in how we would find a flooring that matched the new kitchen scheme while also blending in neatly and cohesively with the rest of the home. Luckily our in-house designer had a solution. The countertops were an obvious updating option for both the homeowner and us. We worked with their vision and helped them to discover the possibilities open to them, including backsplash to match the countertop space. This previously outdated kitchen has been transformed into a warm, updated, and breathable environment!
