A Beginner’s Guide to Kitchen Remodeling

A kitchen remodeling project can add value to your home and change how you look at and use the space. If you’re new to remodeling, it’s normal to feel a little apprehensive. The best way to combat those worries is to learn what to expect before and during the process.

Today, we explain the parts of the process that first-time homeowners tend to worry about most. We hope this outline will lessen some of your fears and help you get excited for what’s ahead!

Step 1: Planning

Planning can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. Don’t be afraid to take as much time as you need. During this time, your remodeler will measure your space and order samples for you to review and compare. Applications for building permits are also done during this stage.

Step 2: Ordering

Once you’ve approved the plan, your remodeler will order all of the materials and appliances needed for the project. Your job during this stage is to prepare to move out or to establish a temporary kitchen before construction begins.

Step 3: Rough Construction

The rough construction phase can take a few weeks. This is when any demolition work and necessary structural changes are done. Any upgrades or changes to utilities will also be made before drywall and flooring are installed.

Step 4: Finishing

Finishing is when you’ll really see your kitchen evolving into a new and beautiful space. This is when your home remodeling pro installs cabinets and countertops, followed by the backsplash, hardware, appliances and other finishing details.

Step 5: Final Touches

This is when your space becomes livable again and ready for you to enjoy. Your remodeler will clean your kitchen and all work areas, then dispose of all construction debris before walking you through your new kitchen.
