4 Ways to Survive a Kitchen Remodel With Your Sanity

A kitchen remodeling job is a significant home improvement project that can significantly disrupt your daily routine. It’s why some homeowners are reluctant to have their kitchen remodeled! However, there are a few things you can do to be able to keep some semblance of normalcy as your kitchen is being renovated.

  1. Make preparations. One way you can survive a kitchen remodel is by making thorough preparations before the job even begins. To accomplish this, experts recommend that you properly pack up your kitchen. Buy a small fridge for temporary use and place it in your garage. You should also include take-out food in your budget in the event that you won’t be able to cook on some days while the remodel is ongoing.
  2. Decide what you’ll leave out. While you’re packing the kitchen, make it a point to decide which items you’ll leave out for use and which will be stored away for the time being. Once everything is packed up, it’s likely you won’t be able to find a certain item until the renovations are complete and it’s time to unpack. Necessary items to have on hand while your kitchen is being remodeled include utensils, plates, knives, cups and glasses, cutting boards, dishwashing supplies, condiments and spices.
  3. Set up a kitchenette. If possible, try to set up a small kitchenette in another room while your kitchen renovation is underway. Include small appliances such as the coffee maker, toaster, rice cooker, electric stove and mini fridge. This way, you’ll have a place to cook simple meals while your kitchen is under construction.
  4. Use the grill. Alternatively, if you have a grill in your backyard, utilize it to cook meals for your family. While your remodel is ongoing, consider researching recipes that can be made with the grill in addition to your small appliances.
