Enlightened Master Bath

Project Name
Enlightened Master Bath
Project Summary
This couple wanted to update their master bath with more storage, better light, a new accessible shower, and interesting but easily maintained materials. After we presented a slate of possible options, a new bathroom plan was designed within their budget that met these requirements in creative ways. Closing off a redundant door to the master closet resulted in a large walk-in shower with a translucent glass panel replacing the door and providing abundant natural light; the new raised vanity provides more efficient storage; dark granite tub and shower panels are a rich contrast with the lightly textured vanity cabinets and light painted walls; the one-piece shower base, panel systems, laminates and solid surface materials are all easy maintenance.
Project Story
The first request our clients had for this master bath was for a better, larger, more accessible shower. The tub was never used so they thought to replace it with a new shower, using the old shower footprint for a storage cabinet. The bathroom is large and could easily support both tub and a large shower, so we suggested an alternative plan closing off the door to the clothes closet (it was redundant since there was another door to the closet from the master bedroom). In its place a translucent “rain glass” panel was installed to bring natural light into the shower from an exterior window in the closet, with the ledge serving as a soap/shampoo shelf. A new solid surface low profile shower base and a combination of solid surface and granite wall panels are attractive and easy to maintain. A fold-down seat and both a rain shower head and hand-held unit increase function and comfort. The tub was preserved for resale purposes and the tub deck resurfaced in matching granite. The new re-designed vanity is raised to an ergonomic height and the former never-used make-up area enclosed with more cabinetry for increased storage. High-pressure laminate panel door cabinets and solid surface vanity tops with integral sinks are attractive, economical, and easy care. Finishes are now an interesting contrast of textures and color values. Future plans are for new flooring throughout.
