Tips on Preparing for a Remodeler’s Site Visit

The COVID-19 pandemic has required a shift in health protocols. This is why our services here at DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen now include modified processes to safely accommodate your home interior needs during these unprecedented times. Here are some steps you can take now to help you prepare for a remodeler’s site visit.

Prepare Ahead of Time

  1. Know your anticipated start date. This information should include somewhat flexible scheduling as well as the variables that could impede this expected start date.
  2. Collect inspiration photos. One of the most effective ways to communicate your renovation goals is to provide pictures, i.e. from Pinterest or home remodeling magazines. This will allow your contractor to get a sense of your style and vision.
  3. Be transparent about your budget. It is crucial to determine your budget before considering material options or features for your planned renovation. Instead of seeing this as a limitation, consider the budget as a tool to narrow down your endless choices.
  4. Consider the style of your home. Generally, a  remodeling contractor will recommend that you stick to one style when remodeling. However, you may want your new coastal-inspired kitchen to look totally different from your Mediterranean living room, for example.

Establish Rapport

Keep in mind that establishing a good working relationship with your remodeler requires your own effort. Hiring a reputable contractor is an assurance that you are not wasting your time and money. Some of the important questions to ask your remodeler are:

  • Who will oversee the project on a daily basis and how often will they be on-site?
  • How often do you discuss progress with clients? (With DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen, virtual meetings via FaceTime or webinar can be arranged.)
  • What is the estimated cost including labor and materials?
  • How long will it take to complete the planned project?
  • What is the protocol when it comes to emergencies such as busted pipes?
