Fantastic Whole House Remodel

Project Name
Fantastic Whole House Remodel
Project Summary
These clients reached out to us after being referred by a local home inspector. They were only visiting the area for two weeks before they had to retreat home to tend to business out of state. They had recently bought a home in a neighborhood they fell in love with, but the home itself lacked the character and contemporary style they preferred. The majority of the project was designed and planned remotely. One challenge was to redesign the floor plan by opening up the spaces while also maintaining warmth with the finishes. They wanted the overall design to be a perfect fit for their new residence. Another challenge was figuring out how to maximize the functionality of the space while maintaining structural integrity. We ended up completely remodeling most rooms and updating many interior elements throughout the space including impact windows/sliders, flooring, baseboards, crown molding, door/window casings, paint, etc.
Project Story
The entryway didn’t offer any wow factor. From the moment you walk in you see the dated front door, arched windows and light fixtures. The flooring was dull and overall the room felt very dark. With the home owner’s contemporary design preferences, we decided to cut and reform the dated arched windows to become rectangular. This helped to compliment the flow of the house starting with the outside leading into the main open area of the home. All of the doors and windows were replaced with impact resistant and new molding helped finish the look. The dining wall was removed and replaced to create a larger mudroom on the opposite side. New lighting was a must to complete the transformation of these spaces.

This older style home had a sunken living room floor that required the homeowners to step down in order to access the room, so we raised it for a seamless flow from the entry to the living space. Windows and doors were reformed to allow maximum light. The large drywall beams and wall were removed in efforts of creating an open floor plan between the foyer and new kitchen area.

A wall separated the kitchen and dining room, but once the wall was removed, we found two steel columns within it. One was noted on the original home building plans but the second was a surprise! The clients were initially discouraged by the news but we cleverly designed a beautiful buffet to hide the columns. We were successfully able to turn the unwelcomed surprise into the most highlighted and appreciated part of the home.

The original kitchen had large walls that helped make the room feel cut up and small. The new kitchen was relocated entirely to be incorporated into the new open floorplan. A large island now takes the place of what used to be a small sitting room and wet bar. The length of the new kitchen required us to insert a structural beam in the ceiling to allow for this new layout. A hood had to be vented to create the focal point of this dramatic backsplash. New impact sliding glass doors leading from the kitchen side are now the main exit to the pool deck.

A small dated bathroom with a shower that was never used also needed to be updated. The home owners wanted something that had a “wow” factor, so the walls were wrapped with shiplap for a comfortable feature wall accent. The mirror was custom made from the same material used to wrap the beams at the buffet. This total transformation included deleting a shower & moving the toilet to allow for a larger vanity area which really opened up the room.

What was formerly the kitchen is now a spacious laundry room where the homeowner can spread out and take care of those never-ending household chores. The window was enlarged so plenty of soothing, natural light can brighten up the space.

In the master bath, a small shower and private bathroom left very little storage and visual excitement. This complete re-design was well worth the update. All of the walls for the toilet room & closets were removed so we could reconfigure this space to better suit this client's modern preferences. Where the shower used to be is now a larger walk-in closet connected with a relocated toilet room. Walls & plumbing were relocated so that a new “wet area” would be shared between a barrier free shower and timeless freestanding tub. The clients detested the idea of cleaning glass, so to keep it less heavy, we’ve incorporated textured rainglass between the decorative transoms & tub window glass.

With the new layout of the master bathroom we were able to increase the size of the vanities allowing for much needed storage. Dark Pompeii quartz countertops were chosen to make the vanities pop with contrast. Removing the dark and dated closet gives the room a more spacious feel and welcomes light into the room. It also allows the free standing bathtub to shine as a focal point.

With their entire house remodeled, these clients are in love with their fantastic DreamMaker home!
