How to Use Color Blocking in Kitchen Design

Color blocking may have started out as a fashion trend, but this style has found its way into the interior world with design professionals and home decorators embracing the concept to create livelier spaces. If you’re planning a kitchen remodel this year, you might want to explore the following ideas to achieve a perfectly color-blocked kitchen.

Color-Blocking Techniques

White Uppers & A Colorful Base

This color-blocking approach is a classic, so you can’t go wrong with it. White upper cabinets and walls paired with a pop of color on the base cabinets is a great way to create balance in your design. This is also ideal if you want the color to be the focus of your kitchen.

Dark Uppers & White Base

Here’s another classic color combination that you can use in your kitchen design. By opting for white base cabinets and utilizing darker hues for the upper cabinetry, you have a neutral color scheme that works well with either modern or traditional styles.

Dramatic Base Colors

If you want an ultramodern aesthetic for your kitchen, a dark base color would be an excellent choice. Make sure to incorporate bright color blocks for a dramatic and dynamic appeal that grabs attention.

Mixed Materials

Mixing materials is a good idea in large kitchens because it encourages the eye to move around the space. Breaking up the cabinet material can create some contrast, making your kitchen more visually interesting. An example of this approach would be the use of white base cabinets and some light wood material for the upper cabinets. The wood can add warmth to the space and keep the kitchen from looking too modern.

A Bright Accent Wall

If you have an all-white or neutral kitchen, you can color-block the space by painting a wall with a bright accent color. Make sure to use the same color for your accents so that the whole look is cohesive. Also, remember to highlight the features that you want to stand out.
