3 Ways to Save Water in the Bathroom

On March 22, we celebrate World Water Day, a yearly observance dedicated to highlighting the importance of fresh water. Each of us can help conserve water! As a homeowner, you can contribute to the cause by designing your home to be water-efficient. A good way to start is to apply bathroom upgrades that will help in saving water.

DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen of Ogden, a trusted team of bathroom remodeling contractors, shares some of the ways you can save water in the bathroom.

1. Switch to a showerhead with a flow restrictor.

Much of the water wastage in the average bathroom happens through the shower. A standard shower delivers a flow rate of 3.5 gallons of water every minute. When you switch to a regulated shower head, you can save as much as one gallon per minute! You probably won’t experience any significant change in the shower experience either if you make the switch.

2. Replace an old toilet.

Older-model toilets were not designed to be water-efficient. Some models can use up to seven gallons of water with every flush! Fortunately, newer models focus on water efficiency and can save as much as 67% on water compared to older models. You can choose from low-flow toilets, duel-flush toilets or pressure-assist toilets.

3. Install a faucet aerator.

Although the bathroom sink doesn’t consume as much water as the shower or toilet, you can conserve more water by installing a low-flow faucet aerator. An aerator adds air to the water, allowing the faucet to deliver a softer spray with better coverage. With this addition, you can wash your hands thoroughly or brush your teeth without using as much water as you used to.
