Tips on Designing an Indoor-Outdoor Living Space

Indoor-outdoor living spaces have become increasingly popular. Designers take great pains to make the most of this large space and create unique, stylish combinations of materials, finishes and furniture pieces. Of course, aside from ensuring an exceptional design, your blended space should be functional too.

Read on for some tips on how you can effectively design your blended space and get the most out of indoor-outdoor living.

Design Ideas

Outdoor Dining

If your kitchen has a patio door opening to an outdoor living space, you can easily connect the room to the outdoor area and use it for dining.  Your home remodeler will make sure the door is wide enough. If you’re fond of hosting dinners, this kind of blended space will work to your advantage.

Rooftop

If your yard has limited space or it’s not possible for you to build out, you might want to consider creating a blended space on your rooftop. Some houses can accommodate a swimming pool on their rooftop. If building a pool seems like a lot of trouble, a hot tub is a good alternative.

Patio

Create a seamless transition from your indoor living space to your patio by installing large doors. To make your outdoor space cozier, you can install a firepit or perhaps set up an outdoor home theater.

Indoor-Outdoor Bathroom

An indoor-outdoor bathroom is an excellent way to utilize space and increase your home’s value. Generally, an outdoor shower is an affordable option for new builds and existing homes. A bathroom sundeck can make a small bathroom feel more spacious.

Indoor-Outdoor Kitchen

An outdoor kitchen can be multi-purpose and multifunctional, and you can use it all year round. It doesn’t require a large amount of square footage. All it needs is a countertop, grill and sink. You can even ask your kitchen remodeler to add an under-the-counter refrigerator if you like.

Pool Area

Open up your living room with large patio doors and create a seamless transition into your swimming pool. In this kind of blended space, you have to carefully select your living room furniture. Make sure it’s water-resistant. Your flooring should be made of non-slip material too.
