Wet Rooms, Part 2: Design Essentials

Wet rooms are well-known for their luxurious appearance, ease of use, and minimalist appeal. They have become popular nowadays, and there are various ways to design these spaces so they meet your needs. Considering your design goals, work with the right contractor to get the proper guidance for a successful project.

Before getting a bathroom quote, you should also consider these important factors to ensure the ideal wet room for your needs.

Exploring Floor Options

Vinyl and tiles are the two main options for wet room flooring. Although tiles can add a beautiful touch to a wet room and are available in various styles, they usually require grouting. Your bathroom floor will need more frequent maintenance and cleaning with this. Slip-and-fall accidents are another issue to consider before choosing a tiled floor.

Vinyl flooring is usually recommended for wet rooms since it is easier to clean and maintain. It’s also slip-resistant.

Focusing on Lighting

Natural lighting creates a relaxing atmosphere, although opaque glass is recommended to maintain the room’s privacy. Remember that light fixtures must be waterproofed in a wet room, and power outlets and heated towel rails must be placed in a safe area that moisture can’t reach.

Prioritizing Drainage

A slight slope on the floor is required to ensure proper drainage, especially if there is no separate shower tray. This will help direct water to the drain and prevent pooling, which could lead to problems. If you have a timber-suspended floor, installing a shower drain below the floor may be necessary. If you have a concrete floor, your contractor may need to build a suspended floor out of timber joints, meaning the ceiling is lowered slightly.

Installing Glass Screens

The absence of a surround is frequently ideal for smaller bathrooms, but the shower area must be large enough to allow for efficient drainage. Consider using glass screens to keep other areas dry. Furthermore, when you decide to get a bathroom estimate, remember that frameless showers are typically easier to clean.

Utilizing A Neat Layout

The shower area should be open or, if necessary, partially enclosed by a screen or a half-tiled wall. Designers recommend using a translucent or sandblasted glass fixed panel instead of clear glass. Luxury fixtures can transform a room into a more sophisticated space. A large overhead shower will also keep the water in the shower area. Combining overhead and rail showers is a good compromise if you don’t want to get your hair wet all the time.
