Project Summary

This is a finished basement for clients that are close friends. The basement project was the result of their desire to want to remodel their kitchen. We finished the majority of their basement, provided them with a full bath, and relocated their basement stairs.

Project Story

Clients, who are close friends to us, contacted us about doing a kitchen remodel. When we went to look at the job it seemed pretty straight forward. At the end of our discussion, they indicated that after the kitchen is done, they would like to finish their basement, so we went to have a look at it as well. Upon descending the basement stairs, we informed them that there was nothing we could do in the basement as it would require bringing the basement stairs to code, which would require taking space from their kitchen. Upon further investigation, we proposed the idea of relocating the basement stairs. We carefully explained how this would impact the first floor and that if they proceeded, it would make their kitchen bigger. Upon further consideration and prayer, the customers decided to move forward with the project beginning with the basement. We provided design and plans which they approved, and they began the selections process. Overall, the job went very smoothly given the scope of work. We double, triple and quadruple checked the measurement and location for the new stairs. The fit and flow was perfect. The basement was primarily open space for family room and gatherings with an area behind the stairs that could be used for guests. There was a full bathroom added to the basement with a custom vanity by Side Street Salvage in Elverson, PA along with a shower surround and enclosure by The Onyx Collection. We also added an egress window and escape well with the help of AJ Precast. In the end the space was functional and met the needs of the clients. There was a section that was retained for storage and mechanicals. The relocation of the stairs provided additional room for the kitchen project which would follow.
