5 Tips on Designing a Calm and Tranquil Bathroom

Nothing feels quite as luxurious as a calming bathroom. Whether you’re looking to turn your space into a spa-like oasis or simply need an inviting atmosphere for everyday use, read on as bathroom renovation company DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen of Central Texas shares tips on creating the tranquil atmosphere of your dreams.

  1. Bring in nature. Bringing a touch of the outdoors into your bathroom can create a calming atmosphere. Introduce nature to your space by adding plants and flowers or by hanging artwork depicting scenes of nature. Consider introducing decor made of natural materials like stone, bamboo or shells for an earthy feel.
  2. Select calming colors and textures. The right colors and textures are key to creating a tranquil atmosphere. Light or muted hues of blues and greens can evoke peace and serenity. Cozy textiles like plush towels or bath mats, as well as natural materials like wood and stone, can contribute to a calming feel.
  3. Utilize soft lighting. No bathroom remodel is complete without a lighting plan, and a good one can have the best of both worlds — utilitarian lighting when you need a well-lit bathroom and soft lighting when you need a calming atmosphere. Many of today’s LED bulbs are compatible with dimmer switches, allowing lighting flexibility with your choice of fixtures. For a more spa-like experience, consider adding wall niches that let you light candles safely.
  4. Choose consistent accents and fixtures. Small elements like accents and fixtures can create continuity across the bathroom, which, in turn, can create a sense of satisfaction. Compare colors and finishes and pick the one that works best with the bigger elements in your bathroom, like the color palette or the dominant material.
  5. Allow more curves. Curves communicate flow and relaxation. Choose design elements like curved bathtubs, countertop edges and fixtures. If getting replacement windows is an option, choose a bow window or mull custom windows to give standard window styles a curved top.
