Communication 101: Tips on Talking with Your DreamMaker® Designer

Having a great remodeling experience is also about being a great client. The best results are often created by establishing collaboration between designers and clients. With that in mind, clear, open communication is key. Here are tips to help you communicate effectively with your DreamMaker® designer.

Agree on How to Communicate

We live in an era where there are plenty of ways to communicate and everyone has their preferred mode of communication. Let your designer know how you want to discuss your plans. Not really a fan of email but enjoy phone conversations? Say so! Do you have a busy schedule and need quicker meetings on a more frequent basis? Be sure to pass that on.

Voice Your Opinion

Sometimes, first-time clients are hesitant about stating their opinions because they feel their designer is more knowledgeable. At the end of the day, though, clients are the ones who need to be happy with the end result. Expressing your opinions makes your designer’s job easier, allowing them to pinpoint what really needs to be done with your space.

Demonstrate What You Want & What You Don’t Like

This is important, as doing so can help your designer understand the exact end result you want to achieve. There are plenty of ways to do this: find pictures of rooms you love and hate, and explain why. Be as specific as possible. You can also create a Pinterest board or an Instagram feed of designs that you like and dislike. List the things that appeal to you the most and allow your designer to elaborate on your options.
